This story is strictly fiction and was inspired by the song ‘Your Love is My Love’, which was sung by Whitney Houston, who passed away on February 11, 2012, and written by Wyclef Jean & Jerry Duplessis.

Through her closed eyelids, Susan Harmon, can see that an extremely bright light is emanating around her presence.  As she slowly opens her eyes to peak her curiosity on what this bright white light is, the only thing she can see is a heavy mist surrounding her body as the white light is also around mixing in with the heavy mist.  Susan slowly moves her eyes around as she slowly begins to sit up to try to get a better grasp of what is happening.  While she is sitting up still confused and not knowing exactly where she is, she looks down at her clothing and notices she is wearing all white linen; a complete different take then what she last remembers of sleeping in the nude.  She stands up to her feet and after getting her balance figured out, she started walking in a direction that she felt led to walk towards.  With no sense of time or space, Susan has no idea how far or how long she walked, but she remembers seeing a golden gate slowly appearing out of the heavy mist.  She finds herself just feet from in front of the golden gate that towers over her by several feet, but a sense of calm and happiness completely filled her heart and soul.  Suddenly a heavenly angel appears in front of her, which to her calculation stood about ten feet tall, piercing gold wavy hair and armor covering the upper torso, pure white wings that expanded on either side of its presence several feet and the face of no particular race or gender.

As Susan stares at this mighty being towering over her, one of the first words that is spoken to her is “What have you done with your life?” While Susan continues to face the angel, she quickly blurts out her answer with “I spent it with praising the Lord, who blessed me with the love of my life, Brian!”  Almost immediately a bright gold light began to show up behind the angel and expand the space surrounding them both, swallowing them up before Susan wakes up in a cold, dark room surrounded by walls and a light breeze coming through her window.  She quickly sits up to figure out where she is and realizes that she was back in her bedroom, but doesn’t remember ever leaving the window open.  A very brisk cold overcomes her body giving her goosebumps all over her nude body.  Susan jumps out of the bed, rushes over to the window, peeps outside to make sure no one is looking into her window and slams it shut.  Crossing her arms rubbing her arms to warm herself up, she walks over to her bed and sits down on the edge trying to figure out what her dream meant. Her thoughts race through her brain in wondering did it symbolize that the end game for her will be living in the eternal light?  While the constant thought of this dream consumes her mind, she quickly becomes exhausted again and lays back in bed under the covers; gently falling back to sleep.

Susan wakes up to her alarm clock sounding off at a few minutes past six o’clock in the morning and quickly reaches over to shut it off.  Rubbing the sleep from her eyes, she gets up and walks over to the television and turns it on and continues her walk towards the bathroom, which is down the hall.  When she enters the bathroom, she could hear screams and yelling on the television, which startled her.  Running back down the hallway to see what was being broadcasted, she could see the national news reporting on war that just broke out on the Korean Peninsula.  Views of Seoul, Korea in open flames and people dying everywhere was being shown live by a drone flying high over the war zone.  Standing there in complete amazement at what is happening, more news feed is also showing U.S. and Japanese Naval ships launching cruise missiles from their ships towards North Korea.  Completely caught with an unbelievable attitude towards the horrific and global events being reported that she immediately could see that destruction and poverty will quickly consume the area, let alone the entire world.  Susan rushes to the bathroom and quickly gets ready for the day and later on as she exits her third floor apartment, running down the stairs she receives a call from work.  It was her immediate supervisor urging her to get to work as quickly as possible, which she advised him she was already on her way in.  She couldn’t help but think about her immediate family living in the Los Angeles area, who she knew were in great harm of the war spreading to the west coast of the country.

At no time in her life did she ever feel like being home more than now, but if she was given that option right now she would want Brian to come with her.  This man, Brian Wilson, is the love of her life, but he hasn’t been home lately due to his business trips with the U.S. Department of Defense as a contractor.  While driving on her way to work she calls up Brian, but kept getting his voicemail and would leave messages for him to call her as soon as he can.  Every other message she would leave him would end in their special love language, ‘Your love is my love!’ Several minutes later she pulls up to the underground parking garage entrance at the Homeland Security office, shows her ID to the armed officer who allows her to continue under the structure.  The global situation has sparked every employee who works at the office to respond and be there ready to act and defend the liberties of the people.  Susan drives down to the bottom level of the parking garage and finally finds a parking space and quickly pulls in screeching tires; as the noise echoes through the structure.  Flings her door open, jumps out and runs to the elevator to take it up to the fourth floor where the first person she runs into is her best friend and co-worker, Brenda Mason.  The chaos that erupted in the office with people shuffling and fast walking everywhere was just slightly overwhelming to the senses, but she was able to block it all out.

On her way to her desk, she passes a flat screen television mounted on the wall and reports were coming in about intense activity along the DMZ and military buildup quickly increasing in Eastern Europe by Russian forces.  This intense buildup sparked things from the United Nations and NATO to respond to the Russian forces forming up along the Eastern European region.  Every United States military base went on high alert and began mobilizing for a preemptive strike somewhere within the borders of Russia.  Her fear was quickly realized that World War III was beginning and that her destruction and poverty notion she experienced earlier will not be able to keep up with the death toll and destruction the world will experience.  Those people that will lose their fame and fortune, be homeless in the street of a neighborhood or community ripped apart by war and shows the landscape of bombed out buildings as far as the eyes can see were just weighing heavily on her mind.  The couples that are celebrating their anniversary and planning a trip out of the country or just going to another part of these great plains, may end up spending time and sleeping in Grand Central Station before going anywhere.  This also got her thinking as the years pass by, during and after the wars’ end, the true test of love for a lot of people will be there and could they stay strong in each other’s eyes as a new normal shocks the senses.  Susan knew for sure that the love that shadowed her and Brian would stay no matter how old and crippled they get.

When she sits down at her desk going through the numerous requests that were left on her computer by posted notes, pieces of paper taped to the monitor and voicemail messages, she couldn’t help but wonder what if today is their last day on earth?  Her and Brian often spoke about what if they died today and if so don’t cry for sadness, but shed happy tears of celebrating their life and knowing that one day they will meet up again.  They always left a message for each other to read when things got hopeless and it was sometimes tucked away in their personal belongings for the other to find it, read ‘On earth we are not meant to stay.’  For the purpose of their relationship it gave them hope, no matter how small it was, and often time would help them through any problem they were experiencing.  Just as she was getting deep into her work, an alarm sounded in the building advising them to evacuate immediately.  She looks up in the ceiling and around her as employees began to panic and yell instructions to each other, creating more confusion.  Susan quickly grabs her purse and cell phone and makes her way towards the exit when a massive explosion happened close enough to make people fall off their feet.  More screams and yelling occurred as she struggled to get back up and to continue her flee to a safe location.  Then as she makes her way, amongst the employees, down the steps towards the basement she hears automatic gun fire in the distance, and gets louder as she passes the first floor.

It was like slow motion as she passed the first floor door in the staircase and the door flung open violently.  Standing in front of her, as she touched down on the landing, was a tall figure dressed in all black and the only thing that was visible was piercing blue eyes.  Susan felt something hit her right in the middle of her chest, which caused her breathe to be expelled from her lungs immediately.  The force caused her to fly back up against the wall behind her, and everything went silent around her, couldn’t hear the screams or the yelling of her name as she slid down the wall leaving bright red blood painted on the wall.  The tall figure walked up to her by her feet, looked at her and noticed that Susan was slowly slipping away, which caused his attention to switch to the those stuck in the staircase by fear.  As Susan continues to slip into the death hold of darkness, bullet shells are hitting the ground all around her and just before her last few seconds she gathered just enough strength to pull out a picture of Brian in her bloody hand.  Just like that she noticed herself standing back in front of the towering angel on her knees once again dressed in her clear white linen.  When she walked through the heavenly gates, she entered the world of the indescribable.  All while she was exploring her new place and life in Heaven, Brian was called on his phone where he received the news of his fiancée’s passing during the Homeland Security Office attack in downtown Dallas.  When he was able to be alone, and not have people around him, he was able to pull out a picture of her out of his wallet and just stared at it with tears flowing freely from his eyes.  Brian kisses the picture and remembered one of the last conversations they had together, ‘If something ever happens to me, no matter what people say, I will always be waiting for you after judgement day.’

“Things don’t always appear as they seem, never take anything for granted”

The re-election campaign hits an all-time high as we approach the last month of this intense season.  Incumbent republican president is attempting to keep his seat at the White House against his fierce competitor from across the aisle, a democratic senator.  As the American people countdown to election day, with the rest of the world watching to see how the markets will play on the polls, others are searching for a break in politics by watching the upcoming meteor shower.  Little did anyone know or anticipate the events that would take place just a week before election day.  During the excitement of the meteor shower other unidentified objects were seen entering the atmosphere amongst the falling stars.  In an instant everything changed as the two teenage couples standing on the overlook are blown from their feet and through the air.  As there is an eerie silence that settles over the overlook, Marcus realizes that he is blind and that pain is just overwhelming his body.

Marcus just knows and is for certain that his eye sight is permanently altered and has suffered some major injuries.  He has no clue where Jennifer and Luther are, but he knows where Brooke is as she continues to crawl over him causing immense pain to his lower extremities.  Which felt like an infinity, Brooke finally crosses his legs and cries out to Luther, who she can see just feet in front of him.  “You found Luther?” Marcus mumbles in an agonizing voice.  Brooke responds, “Yes! He’s over here lying face down.  Luther?!”  After finally reaching him, Brooke flips over Luther who lets out a very loud scream from the movement.  This startles Brooke who flinches and countless times kept asking him was he feeling okay and where is he hurt.  Luther was able to calm himself down and explain to her, “My left leg is completely broken, my left arm is also completely broken and I think my back is broken as well.”  News like this is not anything Brooke was expecting and immediately started to break down in uncontrollable tears.  It was at this time Marcus was able gain enough strength in his voice to yet to Jennifer.  Listening for a few seconds with no response, but repeated.

On the fourth time calling out her name, Jennifer yelled out to Marcus and shuffled over to him, where she saw Brooke and Luther.  She quickly grasps Marcus’s right hand and wiped away her tears while she tries to find out if everyone is okay.  “I’m blind.  I can’t see a damn thing.  I’m not able to see your face, but I can still feel it.  I haven’t forgotten what you look like.”  Marcus said.  This just made her break down with more tears and sympathy for her boyfriend who will never see the world the same again.  Jennifer throws the same question at Brooke and Luther who hesitates to answer.  Brooke finally replied and said, “I think I’m paralyzed from the waist down, and Luther has a broken arm, broken leg and possibly a broken back.”  Turning around the best way she can and looks at Jennifer to ask her of her injuries.  Knowing she was in best shape out of everyone, she hesitated before responding.  “I just woke up from a concussion, I think, and right now as I can see only bumps and bruises.”

Marcus chuckles, Brooke scuffs and Luther sucks his teeth with all of them showing disgust and jealousy.  “I’m sorry guys that I am in the best of shape, but right now I’m worried about you three.”  Jennifer replied.  Marcus turns his head towards Jennifer and asks her, “What the hell happened?  I remember seeing a bright light and the next thing I know darkness is my reality.”  Shaking her head as she looks around the darkness, smoke and the landscape debris that surrounds them, Jennifer replies, “I don’t know what happened.  I don’t recognize anything anymore.  Where do I go for help?”  Luther responds, “Well since you are the only one with working legs, you may have to go find help from somewhere.  We all need medical attention like yesterday.”  Shaking her head up and down, Jennifer agrees and begins to stand up with a slight pain shooting up her left leg.  Grimaces in pain as she puts weight on her leg, but quickly collapses accidently falling on Marcus.  He lets out a loud scream and starts crying from the immense pain that just went through his body.  She quickly rolls off of him and starts to cough before checking on Marcus.

A few minutes later, Jennifer starts to stand up again and with being on a slight incline this makes her put weight on that injured leg again.  Jennifer was able to keep herself from falling as she climbs back up the hill to their original spot.  “Where you going?” Brooke shouts.  Jennifer glances back and replies, “Climbing back to our original point to see if I can see what happened.  Maybe I will be able to know how to call for help.”  Each step and crawl just gave Jennifer intense pain that felt like it was getting worse and worse with each movement.  Determination kept her going and she was able to finally climb to the previous point, but this time the tree that was there has been blown away leaving a stump.  Jennifer plops her head down on the ground while trying to catch her breath when she suddenly hears an explosion over the ridge.  Pulling herself up over the top to see the town was a hard struggle, but finally did it.  Jennifer stared down at the town beneath the ridge and saw her entire world just completely in flames.  Flames were so high and running so rampant that she could feel some of the heat being miles away.  Pulling herself to look over the ridge into the valley, small fire pockets could be seen several feet from them, but not immediate danger.

Forcing herself to look up as she started to pay attention of ashes beginning to fall around her, and sees the mushroom cloud still formed miles up into the atmosphere.  Understanding what she is looking at, Jennifer knows that her and her friends are in immediate danger and must find a way to get out of there.  She starts to slide on her stomach back towards Marcus causing herself abdomen cuts and bruises over rocks.  Marcus hears her back down to them and wondered what is happening.  Fear surrounds her face and glances back up to the sky at the mushroom cloud.  In her low tone she explains, “I think I know where to find help, but I need to get you three out of here.”  “How the hell you going to do that?  Even though you can walk, you’re still fucked up!”  Luther responds slightly angrily.  Marcus turns his head towards her and knows that something is wrong.  His ears have heightened their senses and he can hear her quivering in her voice and words.  “Okay Jen.  I suppose we better find a plan out of here, but your challenge is that I’m blind, Brooke is possibly paralyzed and Luther whole left side is fucked.  There you go.  I suppose you have to figure it out.”  Marcus let out a small chuckle at the end, which was followed by another chuckle by Jennifer.

As the silent wind blows through the city, a staffer on the president’s campaign trail is suddenly awaken to find himself under massive amounts of rumble.  He starts coughing immediately as he starts removing things off the top of him to free himself.  After removing one heavy slab of concrete that was leaning just inches from his head, moonlight shines on his face.  Looking up at the moon is a surprise as he last remembers being in an underground parking garage.  The moonlight displays that he is covered in ash from head to toe, and every movement ruffles the ash off of him.  Trying to get his coughing under control, he was able to move enough debris to stand up, but he did very slowly.  As he looks around all he can see is small standalone fires, cars and trucks flipped every which way and heavy smoke.  The staffer quickly remembers and frantically searches for any signs of the president, other staffers and anyone that could still be alive.  Climbing over rumble and moving debris left and right, he spots one of the secret service agents on the ground.  He rushes over to him and checks for a pulse and feels nothing.  Looks around and sees the feet of the campaign manager.  Rushing over to her he was able to get pulse, but it was very shallow.  Feeling lucky he stands up to continue looking around and running with his head cut off, but spots the president’s vehicle several feet away.

Tripping and stumbling over debris, dead bodies and loose car parts, he falls right into the mangled vehicle.  Frantically feels for ways to open the door to free the president, but finds it very difficult to do so.  He quickly finds a rebar and uses that to pry open the rear door.  When he finally gets the door open, a body falls out of the car at his feet.  The shock on his face seemed permanent when he noticed it was the president of the United States.  Bending over to get a better view in the car, he could see the vice president as well lying motionless with his eyes open, and bleeding from the face.  This sight was just simply overwhelming and barely comprehensible to the five senses.  He stumbles back and falls over another dead secret service agent.  When he stands back up and starts to closely pay attention to his environment, a mushroom cloud could be seen in the western sky and the city landscape completely gone.  The sight of what he is seeing is just too hard to understand and way too much swallow, which brings instant tears and severe sorrow.  Noise behind him made him quickly remember about the other staffer still alive.  Jumping and hoping over rubble and debris in his way, he reaches her and tends to her laceration over her left ear.  When she asks him what happened and is the president okay, he gives a huge gulp of saliva and just stares in her eyes; wondering how to respond and how to generate the news.

Could this be used for our modern day law enforcement?

At first glance, the life of a hagfish—also known as the slime eel—may not seem very inspiring. The blind, jawless fish scours the seafloor in search of dead sea creatures to eat. But when threatened, a hagfish reveals its strange Spider-Man-like power: It spews forth gummy, gelatinous goop that clogs up the predator’s gills, or…

via Slime eels have inspired new materials designed to protect troops in combat — Quartz

On this particular night, while working my midnight shift on patrol, I was assigned to patrol a specific area, Charlie Sector, in the city of College Park. There is a four lane highway that cuts through the city, on the north side, with a very wide grassy median separating the two lanes on each side.  As you travel through the city down this highway, you will pass the University of Maryland Golf Course, which from time to time holds important tournaments related to the PGA.  Well, as I was on patrol, I had positioned my cruiser on the right shoulder, completely blacked out, just watching traffic as it goes by.  I am not sure how long I waited, but I saw a car coming up behind me, cresting the hill, with only one headlight working, and as it passed me I only noticed one person in the car, the driver.  Once the car passed me I waited a few seconds before pulling out behind it with my lights still off.

By this time I got on the radio and communicated to the dispatcher that I was about to conduct a traffic stop, which I gave them the description of the car and my current location. Almost immediately after I turned on my blue and red lights, the car began to slow down without applying the break, which at this time the car might have been doing about 30mph in a 45mph zone.  However, although the car had slowed down significantly, it took about another thirty seconds before the car finally came to a complete stop on the right shoulder, which was maybe a mile from where I first saw the car.  While the car was slowing down on the shoulder, I noticed two more cruisers sitting in the golf course parking lot facing in my direction.  No more than probably ten seconds after I finally stopped the car, the two officers that were in the golf course parking lot began heading my way, which didn’t take them very long to get to me.

With confidence knowing that they were just around the corner if I needed them, I approached the driver side window and noticed it was a young black male, about 18-20 years of age. The very first thing I noticed when I made contact with him, after I asked for his license and registration, was that he had his hands up in the air, over his head, and made the statement of “Don’t shoot me bro!  Whatever you do, don’t shoot me!”  Now, obviously I was not prepared for this type of reaction or initial contact with the young man, so it took me a second to adjust to the situation.  After he gave me his license and registration, he repeated the same statement again at least two more times, with his hands still in the air and his eyes locked on me.  Through all my years in law enforcement, I have never encountered anything like this before, but soon his reaction would be telling of why he was like that on his first contact with me.  I simply responded to him by saying, “Okay.  I won’t shoot you.  Relax.  Don’t do anything that would cause me to go that route.”

He then slowly put his hands down and took a deep breath, which at this time again I am still trying to figure out his demeanor. Once I got his license and registration that is when my back up arrived behind me, which was a good sense.  When I told him that I pulled him over for his headlight not working, he volunteered information by telling me, and the other officers, that he was involved in an accident not too long before I pulled him over.  Going further into the conversation, he once again volunteered information that the accident happened in a neighboring county and that police was called.  Following my gut instincts on this traffic stop, I had my dispatcher check with that neighboring county police to see if any accident was reported in the location the young male told me.  When that check came back negative for police report of any accidents involving his car, he then changed the location of his accident that it happened in Washington, D.C., and it involved a taxi, which was a hit and run.

This time I had one of my secondary officers, along with the dispatcher, check with D.C. Metropolitan Police to see if they received any accident notifications, involving a blue Dodge Neon. Again, his story didn’t check out with D.C. either, but once more his story was changed to that police were not involved and that an agreement was reached with the other driver.  Okay, at this point during the traffic stop I am in strong belief that this driver is hiding something, but I couldn’t figure it out at that moment.  But, just as I was heading back to my cruiser to issue the driver a warning for his headlight, it was brought to my attention that there was a half full bottle of alcohol in the backseat.  With the driver being under the age of 21, that lead to another issue and a citation for underage possession.  It has been my practice that when I have multiple pieces of paper to issue a driver, I tend to get the driver out of the car.  For me this is comfortable, for others it may not be, but it is better for me to do that and to get them away from any weapons in the vehicle, and also take stress off of my back wearing my equipment bent over.

After I had written the warning for the headlight and an alcohol citation for underage possession, I went back up to the driver side window and ordered the driver to exit. When I had asked him to step out of the vehicle, he first looked at me with deer in the headlights look and appeared very nervous to do so.  It took another few seconds to get him out of the car and back towards my cruiser.  As he is walking towards my cruiser, he kept looking at his car where he left his driver’s door open, exposing the interior of the car for easy scanning.  By this time, one of my secondary officers walked over to close the driver’s door and discovered a gun on the driver’s floorboard.  Immediately after the officer yelled out the code for weapon, the other secondary officer, and myself, took the driver into custody, who kept claiming it was only a bb gun.  Upon further examination of the weapon, it was a fully loaded twenty-five caliber pistol with one in the chamber ready to be fired.

Later, on when I questioned the suspect he told me he got the gun after his first year at Howard University when he got robbed. Since then he has had it, with the serial number filed off, and has been transporting it with him nearly every day.  Of course, he wouldn’t give up the person that gave him the gun, but didn’t mind telling me everything else that involved him having the gun.  Sadly, about a month later after I arrested him, he was again arrested by a neighboring county.  The irony part of that is he got arrested by the county he lied about in his story to me a month earlier.  This was a college student, who had no prior criminal history, breaking the law by transporting a concealed weapon in his car, and had his hands up over his head prior to me ever knowing it.  As I thought about the situation when doing my report, it dawned on me of why he made that statement earlier in the traffic stop when I first made contact with him.  I have vowed that if I ever hear that again, I will be more alert and diligent to the person’s actions and attitude.  If the other officers didn’t show up when they did, who knows what would’ve happened.  Sometimes people give up themselves for what they do, say and how they act towards authority.  This makes policing easy when people help you do your job by incriminating themselves.  Another young black man, who had no criminal history, messed up his own life due to his own actions.

“Things can change in an instant”

Tonight, just minutes after midnight, a meteor shower is scheduled to occur in the views of millions of viewers in the western sky.  Taking advantage of this scenario are a group of friends, two teenage couples, who have decided to get together at a scenic overlook that gives them an unimpeded view of most of the town of Frederick.  A small city-town in the northern part of Maryland that is culturally diverse and has slowly become an economical center point in the crab state.  To also capitalize on that situation, Marcus Dubois and his long term girlfriend, Jennifer Stunner, are at the Frederick Mall spending money and wasting time prior to the meet at the overlook.  Watching the clock, Marcus grabs Jennifer’s hand and pulls her towards a jewelry store that has rings and necklaces displayed in front of the store.  As they both look through the glass cases to browse the selections, Jennifer tugs his hand to get his attention and points to a necklace directly in front of her.  When Marcus saw the item she was pointing at, his eyes got immediately big and received the major impulse to buy it right away.

He quickly got the retailer’s attention and made it known that the necklace outlined in royal blue and purple with a small diamond in the middle is the one he wants.  Within minutes after Jennifer pointing it out she had the very same necklace now hanging from her neck.  The grin that came from her face was just exciting for Marcus and made him lose his sense of reality when looking in her green eyes.  Suddenly, the intercom in the mall made an announcement that they were closing in about thirty minutes, which snapped Marcus out of his trance.  He glanced down at his wrist watch and saw that they were late leaving and needed to hurry up to meet Luther and Brooke, the other teenage couple, at the scenic overlook.  As Marcus and Jennifer rush from the mall to the overlook, Brooke and Luther begin to settle themselves in a spot where they can easily see the entire town and an unimpeded view of the night sky.  Brooke checks her watch and sees that Marcus and Jennifer are late, but doesn’t quite begin to worry.

Luther walks back to his car and pops the trunk to grab a cooler full of alcohol, chicken wings, water, soda and chips.  A few minutes later, after Luther and Brooke have everything laid out and start to worry, Marcus and Jennifer can be heard speeding up the roadway to the overlook spot that was previously marked for them to meet.  Brooke and Luther watches them quickly pull into the parking space next to Luther’s car and exit.  They both started walking towards the previous meeting spot, but Brooke yells to them to come meet up with them at a different location.  Marcus and Jennifer run up the hill to meet with their friends, where Luther immediately hands them both a can of beer and sit opposite of their counterparts.  For the next few hours of beer drinking and just having a good time, Luther pulls Marcus to the side to have a private conversation with him.  As Marcus and Luther are engaged in their private get together, Brooke and Jennifer decides to have one of their own where Jennifer shows off her new purchase.

Not knowing which each other group was talking about, they join up together and continue to party like nothing happened.  Just before the clock turned midnight, Brooke and Luther fell asleep on each other under a tree while Marcus and Jennifer are standing next to each other holding hands overlooking the town.  Jennifer leans her head on Marcus’s shoulder as she looks up and starts to see flashes in the clear night sky.  She alerts Marcus and runs over to wake up Brooke and Luther to the upcoming event.  They quickly wake up to her bright enthusiasm to what is about to take place and urgently get to their feet.  Both couples stand next to each other with the men having their arms wrapping and holding their significant other.  No conversation was heard between them as they focused their eyes on the rapid flashing that’s happening above them.  Within minutes after the meteor shower started more significant mass objects, which were believed to be meteors, entered the atmosphere displaying colorful tails before evaporating.  Just minutes before things changed forever, Jennifer pulled out her phone and began to video the historical event so she could look at it over and over again, and maybe even share with her kids one day.

Suddenly one object entering the atmosphere caught Luther’s eye directly above them.  He points and alerts to Brooke, Marcus and Jennifer, who points her cell phone towards the incoming object.  As Jennifer follows it with her phone, she notices that the tail of the incoming meteor is bright red while others are blue and/or white, looks bigger and moving much quicker.  She follows the object with her phone until it is out of sight behind some trees at which she turns back around to continue to watch the night show.  Seconds after she turns around, a hollow boom was heard followed by a very harsh rumble under their feet.  This takes them out of their trance that they were in gazing at the night sky, causing them to look at each other as if they were asking each other telepathically what just happened.  Looking around nothing could be seen, but more rumbling could be felt continuing under their feet that made it very hard to keep their balance.  Marcus looks up and sees another object resembling the one Jennifer saw a few minutes before having a bright red tail trailing behind.  Jennifer once again got her phone to follow the object falling through the atmosphere when she then witnessed the unthinkable.  When the object didn’t evaporate like other meteors still penetrating the night sky, it gave her pause.

The object struck the center of town and immediately blasted a bright white light and an explosion that blew the couples off their feet down a hill.  As the couple tumble down the hill towards the parking lot and amongst the prickly bushes, the entire town immediately engulfed in flames with a mushroom cloud climbing several miles up towards the atmosphere.  The chaotic scene below the overlook was censored to the teenage couples while they suffered major injuries and concussions lying at the bottom of the hill.  Unknown to them people have disintegrated and died in an instant, the immediate atmosphere’s temperature raised to approximately 10,000 degrees in an instant.  Being blown away from the initial blast of wind saved them from the immediate aftermath of the falling object exploding and radiating tremendous amount of heat into the atmosphere.  Several minutes Marcus begins to move and start removing tree branches and other foreign debris away from his body as he attempts to regain his footing of reality.  He notices that everything was completely dark, but the smell of smoke and the windy silence overwhelms him senses.

He starts to call out to his girlfriend Jennifer with no immediate answer from her, but hears someone stirring near him.  He reaches out towards the shuffling and what feels like long curly hair and a possible windbreaker material.  Marcus remembers that Jennifer wore a jean jacket and that Brooke was wearing Luther’s windbreaker before everything went completely south.  Brooke’s voice was heard by his ears, but he could tell that she was in serious pain as she cried out from each movement.  She reached out towards Marcus thinking it was Luther, but quickly realized who it was when her hand brushed against his jean pant leg.  Luther wore jogging pants that matched his windbreaker material of his jacket and knew that Marcus was the only one wearing jeans that night.  She began to ask questions about Luther and Jennifer, which Marcus couldn’t answer truthfully because he honestly didn’t know where they were and if they were even near.  Things only got worse for him when he heard Brooke mentioned something about the bright moon, which is immediately above him.  Not able to see the bright moon completely and to only see the radiant light illuminating, made his heart skip several beats and the realization that he could be completely blind.  The news of this in his mind is a very shocking reality as the weight of Brooke climbing over his legs sends pain shooting upward.  Now, with this new reality being laid upon him without requesting it, his life has not only changed, but his personal being has now taken a tremendous bruise.
